Position Title: Defence Project Manager
Location: Anzac Park West Constitution Avenue (Preferred), Other Defence Sites (Commonwealth Premises) and Remote.
Employment Type: [Full-Time/Contract]
Security Clearance: Minimum NV1 security clearance
Experience: 10 years experience in project management within IT or defence environments, with at least the last 3 years on defence-related projects. Experience with Defence ICT projects highly regarded.
Salary: $181,500 – $241,000 circa


About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Project Manager to lead and deliver high-profile defence projects. This critical role requires exceptional organisational skills, stakeholder management, and technical understanding to oversee the lifecycle of ICT and defence initiatives. The ideal candidate will ensure projects meet time, quality, and budget requirements while addressing workforce impacts and sustaining outcomes.

You will also play a pivotal role in managing the transition impact of new technologies on workforce operations and support sustainment plans. Projects may vary in their direct user impact, ranging from end-user technology migrations to operational improvements for Defence ICT support and delivery teams, such as the Defence Digital Group (DDG) and Joint Capability Group (JCG).


Key Responsibilities

  • Project Planning and Execution:
    • Develop detailed project plans, schedules, and budgets.
    • Oversee the end-to-end project lifecycle, ensuring milestones and deliverables are met.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Collaborate with stakeholders across Defence, including ICT teams, end-users, and leadership.
    • Facilitate clear communication to ensure alignment on objectives and expectations.
  • Risk and Issue Management:
    • Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks and issues.
    • Implement contingency plans to address potential disruptions.
  • Workforce Transition:
    • Assess the impact of projects on workforce operations.
    • Develop and implement sustainment plans for new technologies.
  • Compliance and Documentation:
    • Ensure compliance with Defence policies, standards, and frameworks.
    • Prepare comprehensive project documentation, including progress reports, risk assessments, and closure reports.
  • Team Leadership:
    • Lead multi-disciplinary teams, including ICT, engineering, and administrative staff.
    • Foster a collaborative and results-oriented team environment.

Key Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Strong experience in managing ICT defence projects.
  • Proven ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships in a government or defence setting.
  • In-depth understanding of project management methodologies (e.g., PRINCE2, Agile, or PMBOK).
  • Exceptional risk management, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated capability in managing project budgets and schedules.
  • Experience in workforce transition planning and sustainment is highly desirable.

Essential Requirements

  • Australian Citizenship (mandatory).
  • Minimum NV1 Security Clearance (mandatory).
  • 10 years of relevant project management experience.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in multi-disciplinary teams.
