Position Title: Defence ICT Software Manager Win11/MO365
Location: Anzac Park West Constitution Avenue (Preferred), Other Defence Sites (Commonwealth Premises) and Remote.
Employment Type: [Full-Time/Contract]
Security Clearance: Minimum NV1 security clearance
Experience: 10 years experience in ICT software management or development environments, with at least the last 3 years working on defence-related projects. Experience with Defence ICT projects highly regarded.
Salary: $181,400 – $241,000


About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and motivated ICT Software Manager to lead and oversee software development and management projects within the defence sector. This role is critical in ensuring that software solutions meet technical, security, and operational requirements. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and a thorough understanding of Defence ICT environments.

This position also involves supporting the integration and sustainment of new software technologies, assessing workforce impacts, and ensuring a smooth transition to new systems. Projects will vary in scope and complexity, impacting both end-users and ICT delivery teams such as the Defence Digital Group (DDG) and Joint Capability Group (JCG).


Key Responsibilities

  • Software Development and Management:
    • Oversee the planning, development, testing, and deployment of software systems.
    • Ensure compliance with defence software development standards and frameworks.
  • Technical Oversight:
    • Evaluate and recommend software solutions and tools to meet project requirements.
    • Monitor software performance and ensure timely updates and maintenance.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Collaborate with stakeholders across Defence, including ICT teams, developers, and leadership, to align software solutions with organisational objectives.
    • Provide clear communication and documentation to ensure understanding of software capabilities and limitations.
  • Risk and Issue Management:
    • Identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with software development and deployment.
    • Implement contingency plans to address software-related issues.
  • Workforce Transition and Training:
    • Assess the impact of new software systems on workforce operations.
    • Develop training programs and resources for end-users and ICT support teams.
  • Compliance and Documentation:
    • Ensure software solutions adhere to relevant Defence policies, standards, and security requirements.
    • Prepare detailed technical documentation, including user manuals and system specifications.
  • Team Leadership:
    • Lead multi-disciplinary teams, including developers, engineers, and support staff.
    • Foster a collaborative and innovative team environment.

Key Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in software development, management, or ICT project delivery.
  • Strong knowledge of software development methodologies, including Agile and DevOps practices.
  • Proven ability to manage complex software projects and deliver outcomes within scope, time, and budget.
  • Hands-on experience with software development tools, version control systems, and testing frameworks.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with defence software standards and security frameworks (e.g., ISO 27001, ASD Essential Eight).

Essential Requirements

  • Australian Citizenship (mandatory).
  • Minimum NV1 Security Clearance (mandatory).
  • 10 years of relevant experience in ICT software management or development.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in multi-disciplinary teams.
