Position Title: Software Developer (Defence ICT Projects)
Location: Anzac Park West Constitution Avenue (Preferred), Other Defence Sites (Commonwealth Premises) and Remote.
Employment Type: [Full-Time/Contract]
Security Clearance: Minimum NV1 security clearance
Experience: 10 years experience in software development, with at least the last 3 years working on defence ICT projects. Proficiency with modern development frameworks and tools is highly regarded.
Salary: 161,000-241,000


About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Software Developer to join our dynamic team within the defence sector. This critical role will involve designing, developing, and maintaining software solutions tailored to the unique needs of Defence ICT projects. The ideal candidate will bring a blend of technical expertise and a deep understanding of secure software development practices in high-compliance environments.

This position also involves supporting the integration of new technologies, enhancing existing systems, and contributing to workforce transitions by delivering high-quality software solutions. Projects will primarily impact Defence’s ICT support and delivery teams within the Defence Digital Group (DDG) and Joint Capability Group (JCG).


Key Responsibilities

  • Software Development:
    • Design, develop, test, and deploy secure and scalable software applications.
    • Ensure code quality through rigorous testing and adherence to best practices.
  • System Integration:
    • Integrate new and existing software solutions into Defence ICT systems.
    • Ensure seamless interoperability with third-party applications and platforms.
  • Technical Documentation:
    • Create and maintain detailed documentation for software designs, processes, and systems.
    • Prepare user manuals and technical reports for end-users and stakeholders.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration:
    • Work closely with project managers, system architects, and end-users to gather requirements and deliver solutions aligned with Defence goals.
    • Provide technical guidance and training where required.
  • Performance Optimisation:
    • Monitor and enhance the performance of software applications.
    • Identify and resolve bottlenecks, ensuring reliability and scalability.
  • Compliance and Security:
    • Adhere to Defence security policies and frameworks throughout the software lifecycle.
    • Implement secure coding practices to protect sensitive data and systems.

Key Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in full-stack software development, including backend and frontend technologies.
  • Proficiency with programming languages such as Python, Java, C#, or similar.
  • Experience with modern development frameworks and tools (e.g., .NET, React, Angular, or Django).
  • Strong understanding of secure development practices and compliance requirements (e.g., ASD Essential Eight).
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools (e.g., CI/CD pipelines, Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in multi-disciplinary teams.

Essential Requirements

  • Australian Citizenship (mandatory).
  • Minimum NV1 Security Clearance (mandatory).
  • 10 years of relevant experience in software development.
