Defence Business Analyst

Position Title: Defence Business Analyst
Location: Anzac Park West Constitution Avenue (Preferred), Other Defence Sites (Commonwealth Premises) and Remote.
Employment Type: [Full-Time/Contract]
Security Clearance: Minimum NV1 security clearance
Experience: 10 years experience in business analysis within IT or defence environments, with at least the last 3 years working on defence-related projects. Experience with Defence ICT projects highly regarded.
Salary: 161,000 – 221,000


About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Business Analyst to provide essential insights and drive effective solutions within defence ICT projects. This role involves collaborating with diverse stakeholders to gather, document, and analyse business requirements, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives and compliance with Defence standards.

You will play a critical role in bridging the gap between business needs and technical solutions, ensuring the successful delivery of ICT initiatives that enhance Defence capabilities.


Key Responsibilities

  • Requirements Gathering and Analysis:
    • Engage with stakeholders to identify and document business needs, objectives, and workflows.
    • Analyse and translate business requirements into functional specifications.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Collaborate with project teams, end-users, and senior leadership to ensure requirements align with strategic goals.
    • Facilitate workshops, meetings, and interviews to gather insights and feedback.
  • Process Improvement:
    • Assess current processes and identify areas for optimisation and innovation.
    • Develop business process models and recommend best practices.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Create detailed documentation, including business cases, requirements specifications, and process maps.
    • Prepare regular reports and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations.
  • Solution Validation:
    • Work closely with development teams to ensure solutions meet business requirements.
    • Participate in testing and validation to confirm project outcomes align with expectations.
  • Compliance and Standards:
    • Ensure all business analysis activities comply with Defence policies, standards, and security frameworks.

Key Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in business analysis within ICT or defence sectors.
  • Strong knowledge of business analysis frameworks and methodologies (e.g., BABOK, Agile).
  • Proven ability to develop comprehensive business cases and functional specifications.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in business analysis tools and software (e.g., Jira, Confluence, Visio).
  • Familiarity with Defence ICT environments and compliance requirements.

Essential Requirements

  • Australian Citizenship (mandatory).
  • Minimum NV1 Security Clearance (mandatory).
  • 10 years of relevant experience in business analysis roles.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in multi-disciplinary teams.
