Position Title: Database Administrator (Defence ICT Projects)
Location: Anzac Park West Constitution Avenue (Preferred), Other Defence Sites (Commonwealth Premises) and Remote.
Employment Type: [Full-Time/Contract]
Security Clearance: Minimum NV1 security clearance
Experience: 10 years experience in database administration, with at least the last 3 years working on defence-related ICT projects. Proficiency in managing secure, high-availability databases is highly regarded.
Salary: 160,400-221,700


About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Database Administrator to join our dynamic team within the defence sector. This role focuses on managing, maintaining, and optimising databases to support critical ICT projects. The ideal candidate will ensure data integrity, security, and performance across a range of database systems, adhering to Defence standards and policies.

This position will play a pivotal role in ensuring database reliability and supporting the integration of new technologies within high-compliance environments.


Key Responsibilities

  • Database Management:
    • Install, configure, and maintain database systems, including backups and recovery plans.
    • Monitor and optimise database performance to meet operational requirements.
  • Data Security and Compliance:
    • Implement and manage security measures to protect sensitive Defence data.
    • Ensure compliance with Defence policies, standards, and ASD Essential Eight requirements.
  • Database Design and Development:
    • Design and implement database schemas and structures to support ICT projects.
    • Develop and maintain stored procedures, triggers, and scripts for automation.
  • Troubleshooting and Support:
    • Identify and resolve database issues, ensuring minimal downtime.
    • Provide technical support to development teams and end-users.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain detailed documentation for database configurations, processes, and security protocols.
    • Generate reports on database performance, capacity, and incidents.
  • Collaboration and Training:
    • Work closely with project managers, developers, and ICT teams to ensure database requirements are met.
    • Provide training and guidance on database usage and best practices.

Key Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in database administration, including SQL Server, Oracle, or PostgreSQL.
  • Strong understanding of database security, backup, and recovery strategies.
  • Proficiency in performance tuning, query optimisation, and automation.
  • Familiarity with Defence ICT environments and compliance requirements.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and organisational skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities.

Essential Requirements

  • Australian Citizenship (mandatory).
  • Minimum NV1 Security Clearance (mandatory).
  • 10 years of relevant experience in database administration roles.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in multi-disciplinary teams.
