Position Title: Systems Architect (Defence ICT Projects)
Location: Anzac Park West Constitution Avenue (Preferred), Other Defence Sites (Commonwealth Premises) and Remote.
Employment Type: [Full-Time/Contract]
Security Clearance: Minimum NV1 security clearance
Experience: 10 years experience in systems architecture, with at least the last 3 years working on defence-related ICT projects. Proficiency in designing and integrating secure, scalable systems is highly regarded.
Salary: 181,000 – 242300
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Systems Architect to join our dynamic team within the defence sector. This critical role will focus on ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of ICT systems, networks, and data. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise and a thorough understanding of security frameworks, compliance requirements, and risk management in a defence environment.
This position also involves supporting the transition impact of new technologies on the workforce and sustainment plans. You will assist in end-user communications for projects with varying degrees of user impact. For example, Project Mercury will migrate all Defence users to Windows 11 and update Microsoft applications such as Office 365 and Teams for communication and collaboration. Most projects will primarily impact Defence’s ICT support and delivery teams within the Defence Digital Group (DDG) and Joint Capability Group (JCG).
Key Responsibilities
- System Design and Architecture:
- Develop comprehensive system architectures to support Defence ICT projects.
- Ensure solutions are secure, scalable, and aligned with organisational goals.
- Technology Evaluation and Integration:
- Assess and recommend new technologies to enhance system capabilities.
- Lead integration efforts to ensure seamless operation across systems and platforms.
- Collaboration and Leadership:
- Work closely with project managers, developers, and stakeholders to define system requirements.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to ensure architectural integrity.
- Documentation and Standards:
- Create detailed architectural diagrams, technical documentation, and system specifications.
- Ensure all designs comply with Defence policies, standards, and security frameworks.
- Performance Optimisation:
- Monitor and analyse system performance, implementing improvements as needed.
- Develop strategies for system scalability and reliability.
- Compliance and Security:
- Implement measures to ensure systems meet stringent security and compliance requirements.
- Stay updated on emerging threats and integrate protections into system designs.
Key Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Extensive experience in systems architecture and design within ICT environments.
- Proficiency in architectural frameworks such as TOGAF or Zachman.
- Strong knowledge of integration tools, frameworks, and methodologies.
- Familiarity with Defence ICT standards, policies, and compliance requirements.
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in fast-paced, multi-disciplinary teams.
Essential Requirements
- Australian Citizenship (mandatory).
- Minimum NV1 Security Clearance (mandatory).
- 10 years of relevant experience in systems architecture roles.
