Position Title: Systems Design Engineer (Win11/O365)
Location: Anzac Park West Constitution Avenue (Preferred), Other Defence Sites (Commonwealth Premises) and Remote.
Employment Type: [Full-Time/Contract]
Security Clearance: Minimum NV1 security clearance
Experience: 10 years experience in systems design engineering, with at least the last 3 years working on defence ICT projects. Experience with Windows 11 and Office 365 implementations highly regarded.
Salary: 161,000 – 241,000


About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Systems Design Engineer to lead the design, implementation, and optimisation of Windows 11 and Office 365 environments within defence ICT projects. This role will involve ensuring the successful deployment of modern collaboration and communication platforms that meet the stringent security and operational requirements of Defence.

You will play a critical role in integrating these technologies into Defence’s infrastructure, enabling seamless transitions and long-term sustainability while supporting end-user productivity.


Key Responsibilities

  • System Design and Implementation:
    • Develop and implement robust designs for Windows 11 and Office 365 environments.
    • Ensure system configurations comply with Defence standards and security policies.
  • Technical Leadership:
    • Provide technical guidance and support for the deployment of Windows 11 and Office 365.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including architects, administrators, and end-users.
  • Integration and Optimisation:
    • Design and implement integration solutions for Office 365 applications (e.g., Teams, SharePoint) with existing Defence systems.
    • Optimise system performance, scalability, and reliability to meet operational demands.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Liaise with stakeholders to gather requirements and ensure alignment with organisational objectives.
    • Conduct workshops and training sessions to ensure smooth adoption of new systems.
  • Compliance and Documentation:
    • Ensure all designs and implementations adhere to Defence policies, standards, and frameworks.
    • Prepare detailed documentation, including design specifications, user manuals, and technical reports.
  • System Testing and Validation:
    • Conduct rigorous testing to validate system performance and security compliance.
    • Address issues and provide recommendations for improvement.

Key Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in designing and deploying Windows and Office 365 environments.
  • Strong understanding of system integration, performance optimisation, and security frameworks (e.g., ASD Essential Eight).
  • Hands-on experience with Active Directory, Azure AD, and endpoint management tools.
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation using PowerShell or equivalent.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with Defence ICT environments and compliance requirements.

Essential Requirements

  • Australian Citizenship (mandatory).
  • Minimum NV1 Security Clearance (mandatory).
  • 10 years of relevant experience in systems design engineering.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in multi-disciplinary teams.
