Position Title: Information Content Authoring / Technical Writer (Defence ICT Projects)
Location: Anzac Park West Constitution Avenue (Preferred), Other Defence Sites (Commonwealth Premises) and Remote.
Employment Type: [Full-Time/Contract]
Security Clearance: Minimum NV1 security clearance
Experience: 10 years experience in technical writing or content development, with at least the last 3 years working on defence ICT projects. Proficiency with modern authoring tools and compliance documentation is highly regarded.
Salary: 140,000 – 180,000
About the Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented and skilled Technical Writer to create, manage, and deliver high-quality documentation for Defence ICT projects. This critical role focuses on translating complex technical concepts into clear, concise, and accurate content tailored to diverse audiences, including technical teams, end-users, and stakeholders.
The ideal candidate will support projects by ensuring all deliverables, including system documentation, user manuals, and compliance materials, meet Defence standards and enhance communication and understanding across teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Content Creation:
- Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation, including technical manuals, user guides, and system specifications.
- Translate complex technical information into accessible and user-friendly content.
- Compliance Documentation:
- Prepare compliance reports and materials in alignment with Defence policies, standards, and security frameworks.
- Ensure all documentation adheres to ASD Essential Eight and other applicable regulations.
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with engineers, developers, project managers, and end-users to gather accurate and relevant information.
- Participate in meetings and workshops to understand project requirements and deliverables.
- Content Management:
- Manage and organise documentation repositories to ensure version control and easy accessibility.
- Regularly update documentation to reflect changes in systems or policies.
- Editing and Proofreading:
- Review and edit content to ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency.
- Maintain a consistent tone and style across all deliverables.
- Training and Support Materials:
- Develop training materials, FAQs, and quick-reference guides to support end-users and ICT teams.
Key Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Technical Writing, Information Systems, or a related field.
- Extensive experience in technical writing or content development for ICT or defence projects.
- Proficiency in authoring tools such as Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and XML-based platforms.
- Strong understanding of Defence ICT environments and compliance requirements.
- Exceptional communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
- Familiarity with content management systems and version control tools.
Essential Requirements
- Australian Citizenship (mandatory).
- Minimum NV1 Security Clearance (mandatory).
- 10 years of relevant experience in technical writing or content development.
- Ability to work collaboratively in multi-disciplinary teams.
